1852 Egypt, Aswan Cataract Islands
The Nile Cataracts, or Nile Cataracts, are a series of large rocks and rocky islands that obstruct the river's flow, creating tremendous sounds, in the region between Aswan, Egypt, and Khartoum, Sudan.
The major cataracts include Aswan Cataract, which includes the Aswan Dam and the High Dam; Wadi Halfa Cataract; and the third cataract, known as Hanak Cataract (formerly Tombos Cataract), located on the Nile River in the Northern State of Sudan, near the town of Delfo (Dalgo). A branch of the Nile, laden with the river's bounty, splits off from it.
The fourth cataract is commonly known as Kissinger Cataract, the Merowe Dam cataract, located between Merowe and the Manasir Desert. The fifth cataract is the northern Merowe Cataract (Bajrawiya) on the Atbara River. The closest cataract to Khartoum is the sixth cataract, known as Sabaloka Cataract, a prominent tourist destination in Sudan and the first cataract after the confluence of the Blue and White Niles.
